Quick Answer

Most Google Business Profile verification problems in India come from one of four causes: the video did not show enough proof of the location, the postcard never arrived, someone else already owns the listing, or the profile tripped a quality check and got suspended. Each has a fixed route. Video and phone verification usually clear within 5 business days, a postcard takes 2 to 3 weeks, an ownership request gives the current owner 3 days to reply, and a well documented reinstatement appeal is typically answered within a week.

This guide is for owners and managers of shops, clinics, factories, agencies and home based businesses in India who are stuck at some stage of Google Business Profile verification, or who verified once and then lost the listing. By the end you will know which route applies to your case, what evidence Google actually looks for, and how long each fix takes.

Why Google Business Profile verification problems happen in India

Google verifies a profile to confirm three things: the business exists, it operates at the stated location, and the person asking for access manages it. Verification trouble in India is rarely about the business being fake. It is usually a gap between what Google can see and what is true on the ground.

Common gaps we see: no permanent signboard matching the profile name, a shop inside a complex where the postcard stops at the society office, a mobile number used across several listings, and a category Google treats as higher risk (locksmiths, cash loans, some medical categories, and anything resembling an agency that could create listings in bulk).

Google Business Profile video verification: what to show and what fails

Video is now the default method offered to most new profiles in India. You record a continuous clip from your phone. Google reviews it and the recording is used only for the check, never shown on your profile.

A clip that passes shows, in one unbroken take: the street or building approach with a landmark or road sign, the exterior with your signboard clearly readable, the walk inside, and proof that you control the premises. Proof of control means raising the shutter, opening the billing counter or cash drawer, showing stock with your branding, or logging into the system behind the counter.

Clips fail for predictable reasons:

  • Signboard is missing, temporary, or shows a different name from the profile.
  • The video is cut and stitched, or shot on a different day from the outside and inside parts.
  • The recording never shows the surroundings, so Google cannot place the building.
  • Nothing in the clip proves you manage the business, only that you can stand in it.
  • The address pin on the profile is a few hundred metres from where the clip was filmed.

If video is offered, prefer it. It is the fastest route.

GBP verification failed: what to do

When Google marks an attempt as failed, you usually get a short reason: insufficient video evidence, unable to confirm the address, or business does not meet guidelines. Do not immediately resubmit the same material. Fix the stated gap first, then try again.

Work through this order:

  1. Match the profile name to the signboard exactly, including spelling and abbreviations.
  2. Drop the pin on the exact building entrance and confirm the plus code matches the surroundings.
  3. Make sure the phone number on the profile rings at the premises and is not reused on other listings.
  4. Collect three documents: GST certificate or Udyam registration, a utility or rent bill at the address, and a photo of the signboard with the building visible.
  5. Reattempt with video if offered. If only postcard is offered, request it and wait the full window before asking for a new code.
  6. If the second attempt fails, use the Business Profile Help contact form with the documents attached and ask for manual verification.

Verification postcard not received in India

Postcards travel by ordinary post and in Indian cities they arrive in 10 to 20 days, longer in GIDC estates and rural pin codes. Google itself quotes up to 14 days, and allows you to request a new postcard after that window. Each new request cancels the previous code, so do not request twice in a week.

Three fixes raise your odds. Add a contact name in the postcard flow so the society guard knows who to hand it to. Make sure the pin code is the postal pin code, not the one Google autocompleted. If two postcards fail, ask support for another method; video or phone is often offered once a postcard history exists.

Verify home based business on Google

A home based business can be verified, but Google expects it to be a service area business with the address hidden unless customers genuinely visit the home. Video verification works here: show the house exterior with the door number, walk to the room where the work happens, and show the tools of the trade, such as a tailoring setup, a tiffin kitchen, packed stock with your label, or the laptop with your invoicing software open. A nameplate at the door with the business name helps a great deal.

Claim an existing Google listing and resolve ownership conflicts

How to claim an existing Google listing

If the business already appears on Maps, search for it inside Business Profile Manager and choose it rather than creating a new one. Creating a second listing for the same place is the single biggest cause of later duplicate and suspension problems. If the listing is unclaimed, you go straight to verification. If it says it is already managed, you move to an access request.

Ownership conflict: Google Business Profile already owned by someone else

An ownership conflict means another Google account already verified the listing: a former employee, a previous agency, a franchise head office, or the shop's earlier tenant. Submit the request access form with your role and contact details. The current owner receives an email and has 3 days to respond. If they approve, you get access. If they ignore it, Google lets you proceed with verification yourself. If they decline, you can still verify with evidence if you can prove you run the business today.

Before you file, check your own old Gmail accounts and your previous web agency. Roughly half of the "someone stole my listing" cases we see in Gujarat are a forgotten login from 2019.

Service area business setup without address shown

Plumbers, AC repair, cleaning, event decorators, ambulance services, pest control, tiffin delivery and many consultants do not serve customers at their premises. Google calls these service area businesses. You still verify at a real address, then clear the address field so it stays private, and list the areas you serve, up to 20 cities, pin codes or districts.

Two rules keep these profiles safe. Do not add an address you only use for mail, such as a coworking desk or a relative's shop, and do not list service areas beyond roughly a two hour drive. A Rajkot pest control firm listing Ahmedabad and Surat as service areas is a pattern that gets flagged.

Business not showing on Google Maps even after verification

Verification makes the profile live, it does not make it rank. Separate the two problems with this table.

Ranking inside Maps is covered step by step in our guide on how to rank on Google Maps in Rajkot.

Google Business Profile suspended: reinstatement steps

Suspension means Google believes the profile breaks its guidelines. A soft suspension removes your ability to manage the listing while it stays visible. A hard suspension removes the listing from Maps entirely. The email from Google names the type, and reinstatement is the only way back. A fresh profile for the same business will be linked to the suspended one.

Prepare before you appeal. Gather a GST certificate or Udyam registration with the same name and address, a recent utility or rent bill, a photo of the signboard with the building visible, and screenshots of the profile. If the trigger was an edit, revert the edit first. If it was keyword stuffing in the name ("Shree Krishna Bearings Best Bearing Dealer Rajkot"), change the name to the legal name on the signboard before filing.

How to file a Google Business Profile appeal

Open the Business Profile appeals tool while signed in to the owning account, select the profile, and submit. Google gives a short window after submission to attach evidence, so have the files ready in one folder before you click. Write a factual two line explanation: what the business is, where it operates, and what you changed. Most appeals are answered within 7 days, and if the first is refused you get one more, so make it stronger.

Editing details safely: name, address and duplicates

Change business name on Google without losing reviews

Reviews are tied to the listing, not to the name. Edit the name inside the existing profile and your reviews stay. What loses reviews is deleting the listing and creating a new one, or running a second profile under the new name. A major name change may trigger re-verification, which is normal. If you are rebranding, update the signboard first, then the profile, because the next video check will compare them.

Change business address on Google Maps

Moving within the same city: edit the address in the existing profile, move the pin, and expect re-verification. Reviews, photos and posts carry over. Moving to a different city: the same applies, though Google may ask for stronger evidence. Never mark the old listing as closed and create a new one; that splits your history and leaves a "permanently closed" result for months.

How to remove a duplicate Google listing

If you own both, keep the one with more reviews and mark the other as a duplicate from inside its profile. If you own only one, open the duplicate on Maps, use suggest an edit, choose remove this place, and select duplicate of another place. Reviews from a removed duplicate can be merged into the survivor by asking support when the name and address clearly match. Do this before any appeal; duplicates are a frequent suspension cause on their own.

What we have seen with Rajkot and Gujarat businesses

JK Tech Hub handles profiles for clients across Saurashtra and the rest of Gujarat as part of our local SEO work in Rajkot, and the same handful of situations keep coming back.

A bearing dealer on Gondal Road had three listings created by three generations of staff, two of them with reviews. The fix was a merge request with the GST certificate and signboard photo, not a new profile, and the surviving listing kept all 140 reviews. A casting unit in Metoda GIDC could not receive a postcard for two months because the estate's post goes to a central office. Video verification walking from the plot number board to the furnace cleared it in four days. A dermatology clinic in Rajkot was hard suspended after an agency added "best skin doctor" to the name; reverting the name and filing an appeal with the doctor's council registration got it reinstated in six days. A tiffin service run from a home in Mavdi was refused twice until we added a nameplate at the door and filmed the kitchen with labelled containers.

The pattern is the same across Morbi ceramics showrooms, Jamnagar brass part makers and Surat textile traders: match the signboard, use one phone number per listing, and never create a second profile to escape a problem on the first.

How to decide what to do first

Identify your stage. Not yet verified: fix the signboard and pin, then use video. Verified but cannot log in: request access and wait 3 days. A second listing exists: remove or merge it first. Suspended: gather documents, revert the trigger, appeal once with everything attached. Visible but not ranking: that is an optimisation problem, and the Google Business Profile optimisation checklist is the next read.

If your profile is stuck, suspended or split across duplicates, send the profile link and your documents through the contact page or WhatsApp and we will reply with a fixed quote for getting it verified and stable.
