  • 2Website side: NAP, location pages, schema and speed
  • 3Google Business Profile side
  • 4Citations and reviews side
  • 5Content side

Quick Answer

A local SEO checklist for an Indian business has six sides: the website (NAP, location pages, schema, speed), the Google Business Profile, citations, reviews, content and tracking. Work through the 30 items below in that order. The profile and review items take one afternoon and give the fastest result; the website and content items take two to six weeks and decide whether you hold the ranking. Most small businesses in India see profile calls rise within 60 days and city-level rankings move within 90.

This checklist is for owners of Indian small businesses, from a single clinic or showroom to a company with three or four branches, who want a plain list of what to fix and in what order. By the end you will be able to audit your own local presence in an hour, decide which items to do yourself and which to hand to a developer or an SEO team, and know what to measure a month later.

What local SEO is and why the checklist has six sides

Local SEO is the work that makes your business show up when someone nearby searches for what you sell: in the map pack, in the normal results below it, and in Google Maps itself. Google decides those results from relevance, distance and prominence, and it reads those signals from six places. Fixing one side alone, which is what most businesses do when they only polish the profile, leaves the other five dragging it down.

The six sides are the website, the Google Business Profile, citations on other sites, reviews, content, and tracking. Each has four to six checklist items below. Print it, tick what is already done, and the gaps are your plan.

Website side: NAP, location pages, schema and speed

Google trusts the profile more when the website confirms it. These are the website items, in order of impact.

  • 1. NAP in text on every page. Name, address and phone in the footer as real text, not an image, written exactly as on the profile. Use the +91 format for the phone.
  • 2. One page per location. A business with branches in Rajkot, Jamnagar and Morbi needs three pages, each with its own address, map embed, hours, photos and a few lines that only make sense for that branch.
  • 3. One page per main service plus city. "Wheel alignment in Rajkot" and "Tyre shop on Gondal Road" are separate searches and deserve separate pages if you can write something genuine for each.
  • 4. LocalBusiness schema on the location pages. Use the most specific subtype (Dentist, AutoRepair, Store) with the same address, phone and hours as the profile. Our schema markup guide lists the exact properties.
  • 5. Mobile speed under three seconds on a 4G connection. Compress images, remove unused scripts, and host in or near India. Most local searches in India happen on a phone outside Wi-Fi.
  • 6. Title tags that name the service and the city. "Dental Clinic in Rajkot, 150 Feet Ring Road" tells both Google and the searcher what the page is before they click.

The technical SEO checklist covers crawling, indexing and Core Web Vitals in more depth for the developer handling these items.

Google Business Profile side

  • 7. Verified, with the exact signboard name. No added keywords, no city appended unless it is part of the registered name.
  • 8. The most specific primary category plus up to nine secondary ones you genuinely serve.
  • 9. Every service listed with a description and a price range; products added if you sell goods.
  • 10. 20 photos at launch, two to four new ones a month, one post a week.
  • 11. Hours, special hours for festivals, attributes, and the website link pointing to the matching location page, not the homepage.

Citations and reviews side

Citations

  • 12. Identical NAP on the top 10 to 15 Indian business directories and on your industry association, chamber of commerce and distributor pages.
  • 13. Same NAP in every social profile bio and on any marketplace seller page.
  • 14. Old numbers and old addresses removed. Search your old landline and your old address in quotes and fix every page that still shows them.
  • 15. One link from a genuinely local page: a supplier, a college you sponsor, a trade body, a local news mention. Two or three of these outweigh fifty directory entries.

Reviews

  • 16. A short review link in the WhatsApp bill message and a QR at the counter.
  • 17. A target of 4 to 8 new reviews a month, from real customers, with no incentives.
  • 18. A reply to every review within 48 hours that names the service and area naturally.
  • 19. A plan for negative reviews: apologise once, say what changed, take it offline. Never argue in public.

Content side

Content is what separates a business that ranks for its name from one that ranks for the problems customers search before they know the name.

  • 20. A page answering the top five questions customers phone about (price, timing, warranty, EMI, delivery), each with a plain answer and the same NAP.
  • 21. One article a month on a local problem: "Monsoon tyre care for Rajkot roads", "Diwali sweet gift boxes under ₹500". Local topics have little competition and bring exactly the searcher you want.
  • 22. Area names in the body text where they belong: Kalawad Road, Mavdi, Raiya Road, Metoda GIDC, Shapar-Veraval. Use them as a real description of where you are and whom you serve, not as a list.
  • 23. FAQ sections on the service pages with FAQPage schema, written from real customer questions.
  • 24. Photos with descriptive file names and alt text that mention the service and the place where that is true.

Tracking side

  • 25. Google Search Console connected, with the location pages submitted and the Performance report checked monthly for the queries you rank for.
  • 26. Profile Performance report read on the first of every month: calls, direction requests, website clicks, search terms.
  • 27. Rank checks for five keywords from three physical points in the city, recorded in a spreadsheet, not just from your own counter.
  • 28. Call tracking or a simple "how did you find us" question at the counter, logged for 30 days each quarter.
  • 29. Website analytics with the phone number tap and the WhatsApp button set up as conversions.
  • 30. A monthly 30-minute review of the numbers that decides next month's one post topic, one article and one website fix.

Local SEO effort vs impact: what to do first

The table ranks the checklist sides by the owner time they take and the ranking and enquiry impact we see on Indian local businesses. Start at the top of the impact column, not the top of the page.

Checklist sideItemsEffortImpactWho does it
Google Business Profile7 to 11One afternoon, then one hour a weekVery high, fastestOwner or front desk
Reviews16 to 19Ten minutes a dayVery high, builds over monthsWhoever takes payment
Website NAP, location pages, schema, speed1 to 6Two to four weeks of developer timeHigh, decides whether you hold the rankingWeb developer
Citations12 to 15Four to six hours once, a check each quarterMedium, high if currently inconsistentOwner, staff or SEO team
Content20 to 24Two to four hours a monthMedium to high, grows for a yearOwner with an editor, or SEO team
Tracking25 to 30Two hours once, 30 minutes a monthIndirect, but the only way to know what workedOwner or SEO team

If you only have one afternoon this month, spend it on the profile and the review link. If you have a developer for two weeks, spend them on the location pages, schema and speed. If you have ₹8,000 to ₹25,000 a month, a local SEO team can run all six sides for one location and report the tracking numbers to you.

What we have seen with Rajkot and Gujarat businesses

JK Tech Hub has run this checklist for shops, clinics, dealers, builders and small factories in Rajkot and across Saurashtra, and the gaps are remarkably similar from one business to the next. Three cases show how the sides interact.

A real estate consultant in Rajkot had a strong profile with over 150 reviews but a single-page website with no address in text and no schema. Google ranked the profile for the brand name and almost nothing else. Adding one page per locality served (Raiya Road, Kalawad Road, Mavdi, Nana Mava), each with projects, price bands and the same NAP, plus RealEstateAgent schema, took the business into the map pack for "flats in Raiya Road" style queries within ten weeks. The SEO for real estate in Rajkot page describes this pattern.

A bearing distributor in Rajkot's industrial belt had six different phone numbers across directories accumulated over 15 years. Nothing else was wrong. Cleaning citations to one number and one address format, and asking the top 20 distributors and OEM customers who linked to them to update the listing, lifted the profile from position eight to the 3 pack for "bearing dealer Rajkot" in under two months, with no new content at all.

A coaching institute with branches in Rajkot and Morbi had one profile, one website page and all reviews pointing at Rajkot. Splitting into two profiles, two location pages and two review links gave the Morbi branch its own rankings for the first time; it had been invisible for "coaching classes in Morbi" because every signal said Rajkot.

What this means for your business

Local SEO is not a single task; it is six habits that reinforce each other. The profile brings the first calls, reviews keep them coming, the website holds the ranking against competitors who copy your profile work, citations stop Google doubting you, content widens the net, and tracking tells you which of the five to push next month.

Do the audit today with the 30 items above. If more than half are unticked, start with the profile and reviews yourself this week, and get quotes for the website side. Our local SEO guide for Rajkot businesses explains the reasoning behind each side in more depth.

For a fixed quote on running all six sides of this checklist for your location, send your website and profile link through the contact page or on WhatsApp.
